So what exactly is SNS?

SNS (Signature Nail Systems) is a nail dipping system that uses a brush-on gel base on the nail, which is then dipped in a powder. The powder, which also lends strength to the nails, consists of organically-processed chemicals Benzoyl Peroxide, Titatum Dioxide, Acrylic Ester Polymer.

Monika Carvalho, owner of The Nail Lab, told Mamamia, “A base coat is applied, followed by the nail being ‘dipped’ into a coloured powder. This process is repeated one or to more times.” SNS nails — otherwise known as a “dip powder manicure” that you have been hearing from friends are made with a powder and glue, and the combo creates a long-lasting bond on your nails. SNS is actually a brand of dip powder,  which is how the method got its name. Similar to regular or gel polishes, it comes in a rainbow’s worth of colours that you can choose from.

"Instead of applying liquid colours to the nail, an adhesive base is used instead, then the nail is 'dipped' into fine coloured powder [to harden and smooth your nail], before being sealed with a special top coat," explains Lilli Vo, SNS Australia Manicurist.
